On the way to Svaneti, we will stop with you near the largest hydroelectric power station in the South Caucasus – the Enguri hydroelectric power station, the arch dam of which has been awarded the status of a cultural monument of national importance. Arched concrete dam 271.5 m high and 728 m long along the ridge on the Inguri River.

Let’s go up to the Chalaadi glacier. Georgia has a huge number of glaciers, more than 600. One of the largest is in Svaneti, the Chalaadi glacier, 12 km from the city of Mestia. The height is 1920 meters. The route to the glacier is considered easy. We start the path to the glacier by crossing the suspension bridge over the mountain raging river Mestiachala. The road itself runs along the stone and dirt paths of the forest thicket. The air here is so delicious that there is no fatigue all the way. The most beautiful views of nature open up around, turn your head 360 degrees. Huge stone boulders come across along the way. who also live their lives, and under the influence of the water element from time to time migrate to an impressive distance.

We pass near the seething mountain river, the water of which is fabulously milky in color. You need to take comfortable shoes with you, the last section of the path is a stone glade, which can only be passed by jumping from stone to stone.

And here we go to the glacier. The spectacle is impressive. Huge expanses and the power of mountains. Cold air comes from the glacier itself. From the ice cave below it bursts the river Chalaadi.

We will spend the night with you in Mestia – an urban-type settlement in Upper Svaneti, the center of the Mestia municipality of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti province in Georgia. It is located on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus, 128 km northeast of Zugdidi. The height above sea level is about 1500 m. The population is 2.6 thousand people. Despite its small size, the village of Mestia (the ancient name is Seti) has been the cultural and religious center of mountainous Svanetia for centuries. In the village there is a historical and ethnographic museum, where unique icons and manuscripts are kept, a house-museum and a bust of a native of Mestia, the famous climber M. V. Khergiani (buried here).

In Mestia, several dozens of medieval Svan stone houses with watch and residential towers have been preserved; churches (X-XIV centuries), including Matskhvari (Savior), Tarngzel (Holy Archangels), etc. Numerous medieval churches and fortifications of the Mestia region are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Mestia is also a center for alpine tourism and mountaineering; from here, ascents to the peaks of Ushba, Dzhangi-tau, Shkhara, etc. begin. On December 1, 2010, a ski resort was opened here.

We will see one of the most famous waterfalls in Georgia – Shdugra (Ushba) waterfall. Let’s ride on the Heshkil swing.

We will get with you to Ushguli – a Svan community in the Mestia region of the province of Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti of the Republic of Georgia, consisting of four villages: Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Chazhashi and Murkmeli. Located at an altitude of 2200 m above sea level, the village of Ushguli is considered the highest permanent settlement in Europe, after the village of Kurush.

Let’s get closer to the Shkhara glacier – a mountain peak in the central part of the Main Caucasian (Dividing) Range, is its highest point, also the highest point of Georgia, the third highest peak of the Caucasus and Russia. The height of the main peak is 5193 m, measured in 2010 by climbers Peter Schon and Boris Avdeev using a DGPS receiver, in some sources a height of 5203 m is also found. In the Shkhara massif, the western peak is also distinguished – 5068 m.
Here you want to be alone for some time with your thoughts and observe all the beauty of nature.
